International Missions
Homeless and Orphan Outreach, Inc. (HOOI) was formed in 1982 when Memorial UMC became involved with the care of orphaned and homeless children in the Dominican Republic. In 1988, their need and our interest caused some members of Memorial to form an independent corporation to help meet the needs of these children on a continuing basis. More than 1,000 children are helped daily.
H.O.O.I. is planning a Dominican Summer Trip for July 2-9, 2018. This annual trip started in 1982 with a group from Memorial UMC visiting the Hogar De Ninos Home in the Dominican Republic. Church members John Wirick and Edgar Carrion formed the first group along with 10 additional men from Memorial UMC. Since that year many volunteers from Memorial and from our surrounding area have made the trip. Each year teams work to help share the Love of Christ through the VBS program as well as working together to do needed repairs and maintenance. The trip is not about a week. It is about a lifetime of growth and change and the difference we have the opportunity to make that week for Christ.
If you would like any information on the trip please contact the church office or Troy White, PO Box, 1370, Lake Placid, FL 33862. Please keep our teams in your prayers as we prepare and plan on how to show the Orphans of the Dominican Republic the Love of Christ so that they build a relationship with Him that will last them a lifetime into eternity.
UPDATE: What a great trip we had to The Dominican Republic and an exciting, blessed time with the children at the Orphanages as well as at The Community Center. Our Vacation Bible School was Jesus filled and a blessing for all involved. We found the children and the staff all in good health. We do have some pressing financial needs that need to be met. We would ask you to pray for the funding needed for those items as well as the daily operations. Please, as always, continue to pray for The Homeless and Orphan Outreach, Inc.
